The Galician Socio-Pedagogical Association (AS-PG) and the Alexandre Bóveda Cultural Association are organizing several conferences on the Irmandades da Fala to celebrate the centenary of their founding.
The first Irmandade dos Amigos da Fala became a reality on May 18, 1916, in the city of A Coruña, at the premises of the Royal Galician Academy on Riego de Agua Street. Its objective was to defend the Galician language, culture, and nation. In a short time, this movement spread to other cities: Santiago, Monforte de Lemos, Vilalba, Ferrol, Vigo, Lugo, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Cambados, Ourense, Madrid, Havana, and more.
The Galician Socio-Pedagogical Association (AS-PG) and the Alexandre Bóveda Cultural Association, with the collaboration of the Provincial Government of A Coruña, are organizing "Conversas en Irmandade" on Thursdays in March, April, and May. A total of seven conferences will be held to learn more about the key figures who founded and formed the Irmandades da Fala.
One of the guests at this event is Professor Carlos Caetano Biscainho-Fernandes, a member of the ILLA Group, who will present the talk "E o teatro fixo país" on April 14th at 8:00 PM at the premises of the Alexandre Bóveda Cultural Association. Vicente Risco stated: "We have the right to demand from our authors that they give us Galicianism, modernity, and emotion." However, it was necessary for this theater to reach all social strata without disregarding what had been done before, since the ultimate goal was to build an institution for the country: the Galician national theater.
Professor Goretti Sanmartín Rei, an external collaborator of the ILLA Group, will also participate on May 12th with a talk about the Villar Ponte brothers, Antón and Ramón.
