Starting this June, educational centers have new materials for Galician Language and Literature classes, intended for the 2nd and 4th years of compulsory secondary education (ESO) and adapted to the new legislative framework of the LOMCE.


Promoted by the publisher Baía Edicións, this new educational material for the Galician Language and Literature subject is part of a broader educational project covering all levels of compulsory secondary education. According to the implementation schedule established by the LOMCE, textbooks for 1st and 3rd years of compulsory secondary education (ESO) were published in the 2015-2016 school year, while those for 2nd and 4th years of ESO have just been released in 2016.

The new educational material is authored by Xoán López Viñas and Cilha Lourenço Módia, professors at the University of A Coruña and members of the ILLA Group, along with María Vilariño Suárez.

1) Reading:Texts aligned with students' tastes and interests, featuring literary quality, genre diversity, gender parity among authors, and cross-cutting content.

2) Written Expression: Diverse textual models (from everyday contexts, both formal and informal, etc.).

3) Language and Text: Varied textual structures.

4) Lexicon: Thematic vocabulary with visual support, phraseology, and lexical-semantic precision.

5) Grammar: Functioning of the language, grammatical categories.

6) Oral Expression: Practice in various communicative situations (giving explanations, offering congratulations, expressing agreement, etc.).

7) Spelling: Accentuation, punctuation, and usage of specific letters and words (together or separately).

8) Literature: Literary genres and subgenres. The relationship between literature and other artistic disciplines.

9) Work Techniques: Strategies for analyzing and synthesizing content; Language and Society. Basic notions of sociolinguistics presented through playful and intuitive work sheets.

10) Reinforcement and Self-Assessment: Reinforcement of competencies and self-assessment of content and skills.
