Laura Tato will receive the "Roberto Vidal Bolaño" Honour Award for Merit in the Performing Arts

The Professor will collect the prize, altogether with Manuel J. Vieites, as a recognition for their academic career in Galician theatrical historiography.


The official premiere of the 37th Ribadavia International Theater Festival will take place on Friday 16 July at 8.30 pm; as a closing to the inaugural event, the Roberto Vidal Bolaño Honorary Award for Merit in the Performing Arts will be presented. This edition will recognize the work of Laura Tato Fontaíña, professor of Galician and Portuguese Philology at the University of A Coruña and member of ILLA, and the current director of the School of Dramatic Art of Galicia, Manuel J. Vieites. The award is given to them by virtue of their effort to build and nurture a prestigious structure for the history of Galician theater.

Professor Tato has an extensive research career in various fields, but has dedicated a fundamental part of her work to theater studies. In this sense, works such as Teatro e Nacionalismo. Ferrol 1915-1936 (1995), deserving of the IV Prize of Linguistic and Literary Research "Ricardo Carvalho Calero" or Do teatro ao cinema. Obras dramáticas e guións de Ramón Otero Pedrayo (2014), awarded the XVIII “Vicente Risco” Prize in Social Sciences, stand out.. Tato is also the author of monographs such as Historia do teatro galego. Das orixes a 1936 (1999); Teatro galego 1915-1936 (1997) or Roberto Vidal Bolaño: unha vida para o teatro (2013); of several editions like Luís Manteiga: Teatro galego (2003) and of articles like "Os vellos non deben de namorarse, de Castelao: xestación e recepción", in Madrygal, Revista de Estudios Gallegos (2019).
