Alva Martínez Teixeiro is participating in a workshop organized by the European project “Entangling Indigenous Knowledges in Universities – EDGES.”
June 4-6
Museu Nacional da História Natural e da Ciência, Lisboa

The ILLA member is speaking in the final session of the event on “The Role of Indigenous Arts in Cultural Preservation and Reinvention.”

The workshop  “Reflorestar o patrimonio: Museus e retomada dos povos indígenas” marks the beginning of the activities of “Work Package 5 | Reclaiming and Redefining Heritage: Data Governance, Displays and Preservation in Collections and Museums”, part of the European project EDGES: https://shre.ink/exDN

Alva Martínez Teixeiro, member of the ILLA group and, as an associate researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS-UL), also part of EDGES, is participating in the final session with a presentation on two actions that took place in museum spaces in the city of São Paulo in 2019: Denilson Baniwa’s critical performance during the event “Histórias indígenas no MASP”, and the “conversa-dramaturgy” held at the Mário de Andrade House Museum, which gave rise to the collective and hybrid work “Makunaimã: o mito através do tempo”.

The aim is to emphasize the need to rewrite both Art History and Literature with Indigenous oral, written, and visual presence, challenging ‘single stories’ and cultural appropriation.
