Publication of “En este son un cantar farei. Estudo sobre o universo das cantigas”
October 2025

Professor and ILLA member, Leticia Eirín, has just edited this collective volume on the world of the cantigas.

The volume En este son un cantar farei. Estudios sobre el universo de las cantigas, edited by Professor Leticia Eirín and published in open access by the prestigious publisher Iberoamericana-Vervuert, brings together eleven studies that offer recent approaches to the study of medieval Galician-Portuguese cantigas, particularly those belonging to the cantigas de amigo genre. It is a volume closely linked to the research project Universo Cantigas, within which it is framed and with which it shares the goal of deepening the analysis, dissemination, and appreciation of this extraordinary literary heritage.

Its pages address such fundamental aspects as the peculiarities of the manuscript and codicological transmission of the cantigas, the genealogy of the troubadours, the critical editing of the texts, as well as the review of ongoing projects —such as Universo Cantigas itself— and the poetic reinterpretations of the cantiga de amigo genre in contemporary Galician, Portuguese, and Brazilian poetry.

The studies included in the volume are the work of twelve specialists from the Galician, Portuguese, and Italian academic spheres, among whom are ILLA members Manuel FerreiroTeresa López and Leticia Eirín herself.

All of them contribute, with philological and historical rigor, to broadening this field of research, in the hope of opening new dialogues and pathways that will further enrich the already vibrant universe of Galician-Portuguese cantigas.
