Xosé Ramón Freixeiro Mato, emeritus professor at the University of A Coruña (UDC) and member of ILLA, has won the 29th Vicente Risco Prize for Social Sciences with his work "Separados por uma língua comum. Lusofilia e galeguidade na correspondência entre intelectuais da Galiza e do Norte de Portugal."
The jury highlighted “the interdisciplinary perspective underlying the analysis of the correspondence between Galician and Portuguese intellectuals throughout the 20th century." They also praised "the approach taken, ranging from glottopolitics to sociolinguistics, including the analysis of interlinguistic differences between Galician and Portuguese, the postcolonial perspective, and even possible solutions to the linguistic situation in Galicia, as well as the symbolic conflict and ideological disputes."
