Journalist Manuel Xestoso extensively covers the publication of the 501 cantigas de amigo, in the second volume of Universo Cantigas
Throughout the extensive article, and based on the interview with Manuel Ferreiro, director of the “Universo Cantigas” project, the journalist covers the main issues related to the genre of cantigas de amigo, the critical editing work carried out within the project and the characteristics of this volume published by the University of A Coruña, which includes the 501 cantigas transmitted by the songbooks. The report also addresses, among others, such important issues as the national character of cantigas de amigo, the importance of recovering this heritage for our times, in addition to addressing the issue of a –debated– female authorship of, at least, part of these compositions.
