Identidade e xénero en Galicia desde unha perspectiva interdisciplinar
9th-11th May 2016
Warsaw

Between May 9 and 11, the International Congress on Gender Identity in Galicia from an Interdisciplinary Perspective will be held at the University of Warsaw.

The Center for Galician Studies in Warsaw, in collaboration with the Center for Galician Studies in Kiel, is organizing the International Congress on Gender Identity in Galicia from an Interdisciplinary Perspective, which will be held at the University of Warsaw from May 9 to 11, 2016.

The Congress aims to reflect on and analyze, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the identity—or rather, identities—constructed by the Galicians throughout their history. It will explore various aspects, from Celtic and Atlantist myths to the complex identity construction by exiles from Latin America, an alternative cultural identity in a transnational context, and current postcolonial theories that challenge metropolitan hegemony and cultural homogeneity, redirecting focus towards transcultural studies and the construction of subaltern identities.

Professors Carme Fernández Pérez-Sanjulián and Teresa López from the University of A Coruña and members of the ILLA Group will attend the Congress. Carme Fernández Pérez-Sanjulián, also a member of the scientific committee of the congress, will open the sessions on May 10 with a plenary lecture titled “Da Galiza a Polonia: literatura e identidade nacional”. Teresa López will present the paper “Tecendo redes: Jean R. Longland e a cultura galega alén mar” on the same day from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
