International Protocol for the Ensurance of Linguistic Rights
24 May 2016
Santiago de Compostela

Professor Pilar García Negro, a member of the ILLA Group, will participate in the presentation of the International Protocol for the Guarantee of Linguistic Rights, which will take place today in Santiago de Compostela.

This Tuesday, May 24, at 5:30 PM, the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) will host the presentation of the International Protocol for the Guarantee of Linguistic Rights in Galicia. The event will feature Paul Bilbao (representative of Kontseilua), Pilar García Negro (member of the ILLA Group at the University of A Coruña and member of the international scientific committee), María do Carme Silva (Vice-Rector for Services at USC), and Marcos Maceira (President of the Mesa por la Normalización Lingüística). The event, which is open to the public, is especially directed at social organizations to learn about the project and present their proposals.

The protocol is a document based on the Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights and advocates for equality among different languages and the development of those in disadvantaged situations. This document will be developed through contributions from social agents and recommendations from a Scientific Committee. The text of the Protocol will define the minimum conditions necessary to guarantee the linguistic rights of all citizens. The conclusions of the drafting process will be presented in Donostia in December 2016, as part of the European Capital of Culture.
