The Galician Linguistic and Literary Research Group (ILLA Group) is responsible for editing the works published by the Biblioteca-Arquivo Teatral Francisco Pillado Mayor, which was founded in 1996.
The Biblioteca-Arquivo Teatral Francisco Pillado Mayor, dedicated to the performing arts, was established based on the donation made on March 26, 1996, by Francisco Pillado Mayor to the University of A Coruña (UDC). This library-archive is scientifically overseen by the Galician Linguistic and Literary Research Group (ILLA Group), which belongs to the Department of Galician-Portuguese, French, and Linguistics, and technically managed by the General Library of the UDC.
In addition to the initial donation by Francisco Pillado Mayor, further contributions have been added from private and personal archives (Manuel Lorenzo, Miguel Gómez Segade, Cándido Pazó, Real Coro Toxos e Froles, Sala Nasa, Sala Galán, Teatro do Noroeste, Asociación de Actores, Técnicos e Directores de Escena, etc.), as well as regular acquisitions made by the UDC.
The library-archive is located in the Library of Philology at the UDC, directed by Marta Lago Méndez. It consists of two typologically distinct collections: one bibliographic and the other documentary. The bibliographic collection includes all books and journals donated by Francisco Pillado Mayor and others purchased by the UDC. These works cover theater theory, performing arts, and both classical and contemporary theater texts in Galician and other languages. The documentary collection comprises documents donated by Francisco Pillado and Manuel Lourenzo, as well as others from various sources. Both collections can be consulted in the UDC library catalog or in the digitized collection accessible through the UDC Institutional Repository (RUC).
Furthermore, the Biblioteca-Arquivo Teatral Francisco Pillado Mayor also publishes works under the scientific coordination of Professor Laura Tato Fontaíña and the editorial coordination of Professor Carlos Paulo Martínez Pereiro, members of the ILLA Group. This editorial work enables users to access a wealth of classic or historical texts from Galician theater, classical European theater texts, and texts in Portuguese, including authors such as Pepetela, Duarte Ivo Cruz, José de Oliveira Barata, and Teresa Rita Lopes.
The complete collection features the publication of 71 works divided into six series: Blue (Galician theatrical literature), White (other theatrical literatures), Grey (thought and aesthetics), Gold (documenta), Green (theatrical literature in Portuguese), and Red (theatrical literature in French).
