Carlos Paulo Martínez Pereiro (Mera de Oleiros, A Coruña, 1955)  is a Full Professor of Galician and Portuguese Philology in the Department of Letters at the University of A Coruña. In 1978, he graduated in Hispanic Philology and in Galician-Portuguese Philology and completed a PhD in Portuguese Studies (1990) from the University of Santiago de Compostela , with a thesis on the avant-garde, narrative and pictorial work, by Almada Negreiros: José de Almada Negreiros’ literary work – Analysis and appreciation of his narrative.

Integrated Investigator at the Galician Linguistic and Literary Research Group (ILLA) at the UDC, where he runs the Interarts Research line, he has, since 2012, been a collaborative investigator at the Research Group 3 — Brazilian Literature and Culture at the Centre for Lusophone and European Literature and Culture (CLEPUL) of the University of Lisbon, as well as, since 2014, of the Group of Advanced Brazilian Literary Studies (ELBA), of the University of Salamanca. Since 2017, he has been an Investigator for the CLEPUL Literate Artists - Artists of Literature. Relations between Literature and plastic arts in Brazilian contemporaneity (AL-LA).

He works in the field of Galician-Portuguese medieval literature and, in parallel, in the field of contemporary literature and the transitive relations between writing and the different plastic arts, in Brazilian, Galician, and Portuguese literatures. Principal Investigator for several competitive research projects and advisor for several doctoral theses, he is editor of texts from different periods in the literary fields in Galician and Portuguese, as well as author of numerous interventions in congresses, colloquia, and other scientific events, besides articles in specialized magazines.

As a result of his research work, which deserved different awards and distinctions, he published, among others, the monographic books The songs of Fernan Paez de Tamalancos. Critical edition (1992), Au sujet des chevaux in-existants (1992 / ‘Xunta de Galicia’ Research Award), Animal Nature. Medieval bestiary of Galician-Portuguese profane lyric (1996), The painting in the words – The Ironer by Almada Negreiros: A novella in plastic key (1996), Hospital das Letras. Interventions and literary essays (1997), Reasons of fire, fabricated verses (Portuguese sonnets from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries) (1999), The untameable freedom to name. Around the interpretatio nominis in troubadour literature (2000 / ‘Espiral Maior’ Award in Essay), Want believe perceive. Critical expressions for reflexion and reading (2007 / finalist for the AELG Award for Essay), Camilo Castelo Branco. The two Majorat of Fafe comedies (2008) or The hand that calligraphically thinks. Of the plastic-scripture and Novoneyrian manuscript (2010 / finalist of the AELG Essay Prize), as well as, in co-authorship with Alva Teixeiro, Machado de Assis and the mundane comedy. Five plays (2017).

In addition to different management and representation positions at higher-education and scientific institutions, between 1997 and 2017, he was Scientific and Editorial Coordinator of the Publications of the Francisco Pillado Mayor Theatre Library and Archive, as well as Director of its White Series (Other Theater Literatures) and Gray Series (Thought and Aesthetics).
